Beating the summer boredom

Staycation isn't really something I enjoy. If it's just a week or two, i'll probably enjoy it. But longer than that? I don't think so.

Since this summer i'll just be staying at home, I need to find ways to entertain myself that would cost me a small amount (or none at all!). I wasn't able to look for some summer job, so,sorry for me.

1. Read
It's something I should do more often, I know. But I have this bad habit that I would only read when it's badly needed or when i'm totally bored. Right now, I fall under the second category.

2. Watch
I'm really not the type of person who's into movies and all. But since there's nothing left to do, why not try?

3. Create
What to create? Crafts, doodles, stories.

4. Listen
Recently, I found these super cool videos on Youtube. They're from another video uploading site in Japan called Nico Nico. I'm totally addicted to them.

Finals Week is Here!

It's already late February. Graduation is getting near. Wait, I won't graduate now, i'm a third year student and is taking up a five-year course. But still, I can't believe it. I AM ALREADY AN INCOMING FOURTH YEAR STUDENT. Woah. It was like i just entered college a year ago. But that's not the point. FINAL EXAMS ARE COMING. Geeez. Good thing some professors are not giving final exams. Thanks to them. Less pressure. But for some?  Oh my. Some even gave assignments and projects to be submitted on the finals week. We will also be changing our school building (but it's more near in our house. YAY! Less transportation expense!). But it doesn't change the fact that this week will be hard. Tsss. But i'm happy that I always get high grades on the subjects that needs more focus (thanks God about that) though I sometimes get average grade on the minor subjects. Hahaha.
I know I can surpass this week. I just need some help from God and exert some effort. Everything will be fine in the end (I guess). :D

Something that i should have read before.

While browsing through my Tumblr, I found something in my dashboard that seems interesting. It's about how you'll enjoy your college life. I know it's too late for me to read this, but i find it really cute.

Dear Class of 2011,

As you begin your college experience, I thought I’d leave you with the things that, in retrospect, I think are important as you navigate the next four years. I hope that some of them are helpful.

Here goes…
  1. Your friends will change a lot over the next four years. Let them.
  2. Call someone you love back home a few times a week, even if just for a few minutes.
  3. In college more than ever before, songs will attach themselves to memories. Every month or two, make a mix cd, mp3 folder, whatever - just make sure you keep copies of these songs. Ten years out, they’ll be as effective as a journal in taking you back to your favorite moments.
  4. Take naps in the middle of the afternoon with reckless abandon.
  5. Adjust your schedule around when you are most productive and creative. If you’re nocturnal and do your best work late at night, embrace that. It may be the only time in your life when you can.
  6. If you write your best papers the night before they are due, don’t let people tell you that you “should be more organized” or that you “should plan better.” Different things work for different people. Personally, I worked best under pressure - so I always procrastinated… and always kicked ass (which annoyed my friends to no end). ;-) Use the freedom that comes with not having grades first semester to experiment and see what works best for you.
  7. At least a few times in your college career, do something fun and irresponsible when you should be studying. The night before my freshman year psych final, my roommate somehow scored front row seats to the Indigo Girls at a venue 2 hours away. I didn’t do so well on the final, but I haven’t thought about psych since 1993. I’ve thought about the experience of going to that show (with the guy who is now my son’s godfather) at least once a month ever since.
  8. Become friends with your favorite professors. Recognize that they can learn from you too - in fact, that’s part of the reason they chose to be professors.
  9. Carve out an hour every single day to be alone. (Sleeping doesn’t count.)
  10. Go on dates. Don’t feel like every date has to turn into a relationship.
  11. Don’t date someone your roommate has been in a relationship with.
  12. When your friends’ parents visit, include them. You’ll get free food, etc., and you’ll help them to feel like they’re cool, hangin’ with the hip college kids.
  13. In the first month of college, send a hand-written letter to someone who made college possible for you and describe your adventures thus far. It will mean a lot to him/her now, and it will mean a lot to you in ten years when he/she shows it to you.
  14. Embrace the differences between you and your classmates. Always be asking yourself, “what can I learn from this person?” More of your education will come from this than from any classroom.
  15. All-nighters are entirely overrated.
  16. For those of you who have come to college in a long-distance relationship with someone from high school: despite what many will tell you, it can work. The key is to not let your relationship interfere with your college experience. If you don’t want to date anyone else, that’s totally fine! What’s not fine, however, is missing out on a lot of defining experiences because you’re on the phone with your boyfriend/girlfriend for three hours every day.
  17. Working things out between friends is best done in person, not over email. (IM does not count as “in person.”) Often someone’s facial expressions will tell you more than his/her words.
  18. Take risks.
  19. Don’t be afraid of (or excited by) the co-ed bathrooms. The thrill is over in about 2 seconds.
  20. Wednesday is the middle of the week; therefore on wednesday night the week is more than half over. You should celebrate accordingly. (It makes thursday and friday a lot more fun.)
  21. Welcome failure into your lives. It’s how we grow. What matters is not that you failed, but that you recovered.
  22. Take some classes that have nothing to do with your major(s), purely for the fun of it.
  23. It’s important to think about the future, but it’s more important to be present in the now. You won’t get the most out of college if you think of it as a stepping stone.
  24. When you’re living on a college campus with 400 things going on every second of every day, watching TV is pretty much a waste of your time and a waste of your parents’ money. If you’re going to watch, watch with friends so at least you can call it a “valuable social experience.”
  25. Don’t be afraid to fall in love. When it happens, don’t take it for granted. Celebrate it, but don’t let it define your college experience.
  26. Much of the time you once had for pleasure reading is going to disappear. Keep a list of the books you would have read had you had the time, so that you can start reading them when you graduate.
  27. Things that seem like the end of the world really do become funny with a little time and distance. Knowing this, forget the embarassment and skip to the good part.
  28. Every once in awhile, there will come an especially powerful moment when you can actually feel that an experience has changed who you are. Embrace these, even if they are painful.
  29. No matter what your political or religious beliefs, be open-minded. You’re going to be challenged over the next four years in ways you can’t imagine, across all fronts. You can’t learn if you’re closed off.
  30. If you need to get a job, find something that you actually enjoy. Just because it’s work doesn’t mean it has to suck.
  31. Don’t always lead. It’s good to follow sometimes.
  32. Take a lot of pictures. One of my major regrets in life is that I didn’t take more pictures in college. My excuse was the cost of film and processing. Digital cameras are cheap and you have plenty of hard drive space, so you have no excuse.
  33. Your health and safety are more important than anything.
  34. Ask for help. Often.
  35. Half of you will be in the bottom half of your class at any given moment. Way more than half of you will be in the bottom half of your class at some point in the next four years. Get used to it.
  36. In ten years very few of you will look as good as you do right now, so secretly revel in how hot you are before it’s too late.
  37. In the long run, where you go to college doesn’t matter as much as what you do with the opportunities you’re given there. The MIT name on your resume won’t mean much if that’s the only thing on your resume. As a student here, you will have access to a variety of unique opportunities that no one else will ever have - don’t waste them.
  38. On the flip side, don’t try to do everything. Balance = well-being.
  39. Make perspective a priority. If you’re too close to something to have good perspective, rely on your friends to help you.
  40. Eat badly sometimes. It’s the last time in your life when you can do this without feeling guilty about it.
  41. Make a complete ass of yourself at least once, preferably more. It builds character.
  42. Wash your sheets more than once a year. Trust me on this one.
  43. If you are in a relationship and none of your friends want to hang out with you and your significant other, pay attention. They usually know better than you do.
  44. Don’t be afraid of the weird pizza topping combinations that your new friend from across the country loves. Some of the truly awful ones actually taste pretty good. Expand your horizons.
  45. Explore the campus thoroughly. Don’t get caught.
  46. Life is too short to stick with a course of study that you’re no longer excited about. Switch, even if it complicates things.
  47. Tattoos are permanent. Be very certain.
  48. Don’t make fun of prefrosh. That was you like 2 hours ago.
  49. Enjoy every second of the next four years. It is impossible to describe how quickly they pass.
This is the only time in your lives when your only real responsibility is to learn. Try to remember how lucky you are every day.

Be yourself. Create. Inspire, and be inspired. Grow. Laugh. Learn. Love.
Welcome to some of the best years of your lives.

This is just a guide. It doesn't mean that you should really follow it. Besides, experimenting is not bad (just know your limitations) . College is full of surprises and adventures that one should not miss! :D

Back to Blogging.

Yes! I'm finally back in tumblr! It was a long time since I last updated my account there. And after that long time, i decided to change my blog theme. It was still about life but I added something negative in it. Well, life is not always on the bright side. That's why I did changed my theme.

I only got few followers. But that's ok. i'm a newbie anyway. But my dream is to be a Tumblr Famous. haha. I guess that's not too much. I just need to persevere to have that much follower. [nothing is impossible, right? xD]

Please don't forget to visit my tumblr account! :D

Gadgets I Dig

I always have an eye for gadgets. I found them so amusing, specially when there are new innovations and inventions. They're all high-end. And not to mention they're all useful.

I decided to post here the gadgets that I really want to have.

Aspire One Happy Netbook:

This lappies are literally eye candies! They have those pastel colors ( unlike those common bright-colored laptops) that would surely attract every teenage girl's eyes. About the specs, I haven't tried them myself ( i was just attracted to the colors that makes me want them), but i found them on the internet:

"This 10.1-inch machine packs a WSVGA panel, six-cell battery (up to eight hours of battery life), Atom N450 CPU, GMA 3150 GPU, 250GB hard drive, WiFi, 2GB of memory and inbuilt Bluetooth. It also supports dual booting (Windows 7 and Android 2.1)" - Engadget

Strawberry Yogurt - this is the color i'm eyeing to.

Philips Raga:

Philips has always been known for their quality products. There's no doubt that this one is a tough one. I liked this one because of it's versatile design. It is also small in size making it easy to carry ( you can even hang this in your ID lace!) . I'm not really after the specifications of this gadget. besides, their main function is to entertain you with your music.
Philips Raga also comes in different colors you can choose from.

Nokia 5233:

Aside from having nice looks, this one's really handy. Touch screens are in demand now though they are costly. But not this one. This phone comes in a really affordable price. I actually got this phone last year and I don't regret having it. It satisfied my cravings for phones. It has an expandable memory up to 16 GB (more than enough for a student like me),  3.2" widescreen display, a music-dedicated key and more. I like the settings where you can see when your next calendar entry will be. It don't have a WIFI but it's better for me because I can lessen my internet consumption. xD

. . . And you will always be remembered.

Ever since I was a kid, I have a soft spot for dogs. I treat every dogs like they were my pet. That's the reason why we always have a pet of our own.

This is Minerva. We got her January this year. She's a cheerful dog. And i mean very cheerful. She always looks for attention. But in her size, it's not annoying. It's cute! Every morning, she goes to my bed and wakes me up with her kiss. Every time we're eating, she would watch us and won't move until we're done. When I arrive from school, she would greet me with a bark then cry (i guess that's her way of saying "i missed you").She's just so really sweet and I really like it when she's around.

Last June18, she passed away. She died because of asthma. It's too late before we knew because it's the first time we had a dog with such illness. But before she died, she got different diseases in one month (cold, sore eyes, cough). No wonder why she died.

But whether I like it or not, I have no choice. It's life. Everything that has breath will die. But one thing's for sure: we will never forget that once in our lives, we had such a nice dog that we will always remember.

Summer's Over. Classes Are Back!

First week of classes has passed And it became kinda nice to me. We've got some great professors, good schedules and nice subjects. Although my favorite professor was not one of them right now, I think it's kinda okay. We should experience the others for a change. But I admit, I miss her. Haha. Books are not that big now, unlike the one we had before that has the size of a telephone directory.

I don't know why but every time that the school begins, I really want the vacation to arrive. But whenever the vacation is here, i wanna go back to school. Hmmm. I guess i should have a motivation to go to school! :)

Ooops. I got the first wave of assignments! O.O

School is a week ahead!

After two months of boring summer vacation (it's boring cause i only stayed at home), i'll be back in school again. Yay! SCHOOL! Though this may sound terrifying, i must say it: I REALLY MISS MY SCHOOL. I miss those arm chairs, those white boards, black boards (ever wonder why they're called black?), funny professors, hard subjects, the long stairs, the tambayan comfort room, the relaxing ambiance of our so-called "forest", the sleepy atmosphere of our library, and most of all, the classmates - the one who makes my day complete (sorry, no crush :P)

For preparation, i already sorted the stuffs i might be using this semester. I already listed the things i might buy. But the most exciting part is when i look for shops to raid! I found some but unfortunately, they'll be found in different locations, not to mention, they're too far with each other.

I also started to think of my new "semester's resolution". Here are some:
Be THRIFTY. I'm really bad when it's comes in managing my money.
Be more creative. I'm losing my artistic side now. NO!!!
STUDY HARDER. I must help my self to remove those pasang-awa grades.
Handle my time more effectively. I need to manage it because it's important.

I really can't wait for the classes! Just thinking of it makes me sooooo excited! Hope everything will turn out nice!

Imma Cheater. Haha.

While playing an online game called Ameba Pico, i found a site that gives freebies for this game (yipee!)

my pico

With this, you can get food, furniture, clothes and many more. (you just need patience. hehe.)
But whenever i'm trying to open the present, my page needed to be reloaded. >.<

I don't know if it is legal or not. but whether it is or not, i don't care. I just hope it won't affect my pico.

Want Something Creepy? O.O

I've just read something so interesting yesterday. It caught my attention because it's not your ordinary "horror" story. It's not about haunted stuffs nor ghost or the dead. It's something about the living. The living dead. (Well, it's just my perception.). I can say this through the symbolism he used.
"Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan" by Bob Ong
This book is a journal of a guy, Galo, the main character. This was just before an activity required by his professor. After he submitted his journal, he decided to continue doing it. Written here is his misadventures and later on, his creepy adventures. *spoiler alert*.
Ok, like what I have said, it's not your typical horror story. It's a comedy (some part made me laugh) / horror (intense horror if alone . haha.) / psychological (ermm. . . i don't know what made this one, but for me, it is.). At first, it's like he's just telling his everyday life; how he deals with school works, how his adoptive family treats him and how cruel his past is. He decided to return to his mother's province to take care of his weak and old granny which happens to be a leader of a kapatiran (brotherhood). This is where his suspense/horror/buwis-buhay adventures begin.
The story is left with an open-end and it's up to the reader how he will end the story (but some thinks there's still part two). This book just proves how great Bob Ong is. By the way, it is said that some of its part is true to life, which makes it more creepy and exciting.

Something notable:
> Galo writes motherf*cker as madapakah, which i thought means tumble down. haha.
> I thought his name is Gilberto Manansalaaah which sounds funny. But it was just Manansala (his teacher is shouting that's why it's long. )
> I like how he insults n5110. haha.
> the symbolism he used gave me a very clear sight of what should be seen (i guess). i hope the others have noticed to.
> he included bible verse ( i didn't read them but i guess they're for salvation.)
> he just made the readers think most of the time. haha.
>It's Bob Ong's first horror(?) story and his book's first creampaper.

well, this is just so.. . AMAZING! It's a must-read! ;D

:O

Waking up in the morning is great. But sometimes, when the dream is great, i regret waking up. It's because only in dreams where i get to meet him.

I wonder why dreams have always been better than realities. Or is it only me who thinks so? Either way, i don't care. haha. What matters to me is to see him. So when i saw him for real in the first time, i was so happy. I can't stop myself but to stare at him. He's something i never imagined to be true. After that incident, i wished to see him again and again, something I know that's hard to happen.

(errr~ i don't know how to end this! i'm not in the mood right now. )

Finally! XD

well, this isn't my first blog. But i hope this would be my last. (i really hope so.) i want to throw my thoughts here, so whenever i am bored, i can read it here and laugh at them. Haha.
Anyway, i am not yet done furnishing this thing (i hope i can do this well.)
So I've got to go for now. :))
(i really like its autosave function. XD)
